Care and Feeding of your new Junior Developer

Regular Session

You've been around the block. You know how to get things done. But now a college grad, boot camp grad, self-taught high-school developer or career-switcher is being hired on to your team. What should each of you expect, and how can this circumstance improve both of you? We'll discuss strategies for training and mentoring as well as some common and some less obvious pitfalls. You know the obvious topics -- like when and how to give feedback, and we'll cover that. But we'll also dive deeper -- like how to use code reviews and pair programming to your advantage, and how to be the experienced developer they think you are, with the focus on practical dos and don'ts you can start using right away.
